These unusual natural forms called desert roses are from Tunisia. They are formed metres under the desert sand by rising ground water which contains gypsum [calcium sulphate] which crystallizes when the water evaporates. I’ve been told that some of these desert roses are as large as cars! These items would make good gifts for people who like collecting natural objects such as shells, stones and drift wood. This hand carved wooden frog is from Thailand. You can make him sound like a frog by taking the stick out and stroking the ridges on his back. To get the best sound, hold the frog on his sides behind the holes, and using the larger side of the stick, stroke him from back to front. Also, I have 2 very tiny frogs [2 ½ x 1 ½ in.] which make the same loud frog sound.
